Equal Base Shares (50)
Everyone starts equal regardless of position. This avoids subjective position rankings and ensures fairness. Your final share is adjusted by:
- • Longevity: Days onboard before charter (max 50 points)
- • Activity: Charter, sea, and refit days worked (max 50 points)
- • Rotation: Months worked per year (0.5× for 1:1, 1.0× for permanent)

Formula Breakdown
Base Shares = 50 (equal for everyone) → Fair starting point
Rotation Factor = Months Worked/Year ÷ 12 → Proportion of year worked (1:1 = 0.5, Permanent = 1.0)
Longevity Points = 50 × (days onboard ÷ 365) → Rewards time on vessel before charter
Activity Points = 50 × (wcharter × sharecharter + wsea × sharesea + wrefit × sharerefit) → Contribution to work types
Total Points = Longevity + Activity → Max 100 points per crew member
Multiplier = 1 + β × (points - avg points) ÷ avg points → Adjusts share above/below average
Weighted Shares = Base Shares × Rotation Factor × Multiplier → Accounts for rotation and performance
Final Payout = Pool × (Weighted Shares ÷ Sum of All Weighted Shares) → Your proportional share
Why This System Is Fair & Transparent
Equal Base Shares (50): Everyone starts equal regardless of position. This eliminates subjective judgments about which positions "deserve" more. In yachting, position titles vary wildly between vessels, making tier systems unfair.
Longevity Matters: Days onboard before the charter rewards crew who prepared the yacht, trained new crew, and set up for success. More days = higher share.
Activity Matters: Charter days, sea days, and refit days all contribute differently. The sliders let you see exactly how work types are weighted. More participation = higher share.
Rotation Factors: Crew on 1:1 rotations work half the year, so they receive half the share of permanent crew. This ensures fairness based on actual time contributed.
Full Transparency: Everyone can see all the sliders, weights, and calculations. The only thing hidden is individual salaries (which don't affect tip distribution anyway).
