About this yacht

Harrison Eidsgaard's sweeping exterior lines aboard this 2009 Wally creation transform the traditional concept of deck space into something approaching an open-air ballroom. Where most sailing yachts compartmentalize their outdoor areas, BLACK SAILS presents an uninterrupted 40-meter canvas of cockpit and deck that flows like a single, choreographed sequence from stern to bow. The cockpit alone accommodates eight guests with room to spare, but it's the way this space connects to the surrounding deck areas that sets the yacht apart. Naval architect Javier Soto Acebal's hull design supports this generous 7.9-meter beam, creating stability that allows guests to move freely across the entire outdoor expanse even under sail. The result feels less like being aboard a yacht and more like occupying a floating terrace that happens to harness the wind. Eidsgaard's interior design maintains this sense of unbroken flow, though the cabin configuration prioritizes day sailing over traditional overnight accommodation. Five crew members handle all sailing operations, leaving guests free to claim any corner of the expansive deck as their own private sanctuary or gather as a group in the central cockpit area. This approach to space reveals Wally's particular understanding of how people actually want to experience sailing. Rather than retreating below deck, guests find themselves drawn to remain topside, where the yacht's clean lines and thoughtful proportions create an environment that feels both sheltered and completely open to the sea.
