Where the buoys are

Governing: Decreto 25/2018 arts. 7.2 and 8; RD 191/2026 art. 6; CAIB buoy-field page; PRUG of Ses Salines (Decreto 132/2005). Builds on: L2.1.

Buoy fields managed by the Govern

The CAIB Posidonia site lists the regulated buoy fields (camps de boies) run by the environment department:

Island Field Protected area
Mallorca Illa Dragonera – Sant Elm LIC Dragonera
Mallorca Cap Enderrocat – Cap Blanc (Cala Blava) LIC
Ibiza Platja de ses Salines Ses Salines natural park (PRUG)
Formentera Es Caló de s'Oli (south part) Ses Salines natural park (PRUG)
Formentera (s'Espalmador) Badia de s'Alga Ses Salines natural park (PRUG)
Menorca Badia de Fornells LIC Marina Nord de Menorca
Menorca Illa d'en Colom – Cala Tamarells LIC s'Albufera des Grau

Cala Blava, Dragonera/Sant Elm and Fornells are regulated by their Natura 2000 management plans. The three Pitiusas fields are governed by the Ses Salines park's management plan (PRUG, Decreto 132/2005). Their outer boundaries also appear in Annex 1.2 of Decreto 25/2018 and in the web app.

Cabrera

Cabrera National Park has its own buoy system, with a daily limit and its own fees. It is covered separately in L5.1. Cabrera was also where the first low-impact mooring field in the Spanish Mediterranean was installed, according to the preamble of Decreto 25/2018.

New fields: announced, not yet laid

A July 2026 press report (secondary) says Ports IB tendered 24 buoys at Porroig and 25 at Cala d'Hort (Ibiza), plus a field at Illa de l'Aire (Menorca), but the projects were delayed to next season. Another planned field at Talamanca (about 90 moorings, mostly on sand) was reported as not yet operational. Treat all of these as "not there" until they appear on the official app and the booking site.

How fields are designed

Decreto 25/2018 art. 8.3 and RD 191/2026 art. 6.3 set design rules:

  • the manager of new fields must be a public administration (or public-law body);
  • moorings go on sand first where sand exists;
  • fixings suit the bottom: chemical anchors in rock, helical ("manta ray") anchors in sand, and intermediate buoys where needed, so the riser does not sweep the meadow;
  • the project sets the number of buoys by type and size, the field limits and any sand areas where anchoring remains allowed.

The CAIB page adds that buoys are removed out of season (art. 7.2), so a field that exists in July may be empty in November.

WARNING — "Moor to the buoys" The CAIB page is blunt: in these zones "the skipper must moor to the buoys provided and may not drop anchor". The only exception is the sand areas the field's project designates (art. 7.2). If the field is full, anchoring on the meadow next to it is not an option.

TIP — Know the size class Fields have buoys rated for different lengths. Choose one rated for your LOA; if nothing fits, the field does not have room for you.
